Phosphatidylserine (PS) is a fat soluble substance called a phospholipid, which are found in high concentrations in the brain. PS is an essential component of all cell membranes and is one of the major building blocks of brain cells. As we age our ability to produce PS decreases and so can have a detrimental effect on age related cognitive decline, leading to memory loss, forgetfulness and sometime depression. Because of it's action on cell membranes PS can also have an effect on athletic performance.
